  16.      The _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g command is used invoke _l_b_o_o_t and other commands to
  17.      generate a UNIX kernel.  The _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g command is also a startup script
  18.      in /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d.

  20.      The options are as:

  22.      ----vvvv      Requests verbose output from _l_b_o_o_t and other commands.
  23.  
  24.      ----ffff      Generates a new kernel even if it appears that no hardware or
  25.              software changes have been made.  Use of ----ffff will clear any
  26.              options set in the /_v_a_r/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g._o_p_t_i_o_n_s file.

  28.      ----pppp _t_o_o_l_r_o_o_t
  29.              Specifies the directory tree containing the compiler and other
  30.              tools needed to generate the kernel.

  32.      ----dddd /_v_a_r/_s_y_s_g_e_n
  33.              Specifies the directory tree containing the system configuration
  34.              modules and binaries.

  36.      ----nnnn      Performs a dry run of _l_b_o_o_t and reports if a new kernel would be
  37.              created.  If ----ffff is also given, it overrides this option.

  39.      ssssttttaaaarrrrtttt   Used by _r_c_2 when the system is starting.

  41.      ssssttttoooopppp    Used by _r_c_0 when the system is stopping.

  43.      The _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g command also uses the /_v_a_r/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g._o_p_t_i_o_n_s file
  44.      to tell _l_b_o_o_t to configure a new kernel automatically or to prompt for
  45.      permission before configuring a new kernel.  The
  46.      /_v_a_r/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g._o_p_t_i_o_n_s file contains a ----TTTT by default, which
  47.      indicates to _l_b_o_o_t to configure the kernel automatically if necessary.
  48.      This option can be changed to a ----tttt to force _l_b_o_o_t to prompt for
  49.      permission before configuring a new kernel.

  52.      In addition to the environment variables used by _l_b_o_o_t, _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g itself
  53.      uses some environment variables.  If you have these variables set for
  54.      some other purpose, you may need to unset them before running _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g.

  56.      NOTE:  This means that they should not be set in the global shell startup
  57.      files in /_e_t_c.
