- The _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g command is used invoke _l_b_o_o_t and other commands to
- generate a UNIX kernel. The _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g command is also a startup script
- in /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d.
-
- The options are as:
-
- ----vvvv Requests verbose output from _l_b_o_o_t and other commands.
-
- ----ffff Generates a new kernel even if it appears that no hardware or
- software changes have been made. Use of ----ffff will clear any
- options set in the /_v_a_r/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g._o_p_t_i_o_n_s file.
-
- ----pppp _t_o_o_l_r_o_o_t
- Specifies the directory tree containing the compiler and other
- tools needed to generate the kernel.
-
- ----dddd /_v_a_r/_s_y_s_g_e_n
- Specifies the directory tree containing the system configuration
- modules and binaries.
-
- ----nnnn Performs a dry run of _l_b_o_o_t and reports if a new kernel would be
- created. If ----ffff is also given, it overrides this option.
-
- ssssttttaaaarrrrtttt Used by _r_c_2 when the system is starting.
-
- ssssttttoooopppp Used by _r_c_0 when the system is stopping.
-
- The _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g command also uses the /_v_a_r/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g._o_p_t_i_o_n_s file
- to tell _l_b_o_o_t to configure a new kernel automatically or to prompt for
- permission before configuring a new kernel. The
- /_v_a_r/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g._o_p_t_i_o_n_s file contains a ----TTTT by default, which
- indicates to _l_b_o_o_t to configure the kernel automatically if necessary.
- This option can be changed to a ----tttt to force _l_b_o_o_t to prompt for
- permission before configuring a new kernel.

- In addition to the environment variables used by _l_b_o_o_t, _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g itself
- uses some environment variables. If you have these variables set for
- some other purpose, you may need to unset them before running _a_u_t_o_c_o_n_f_i_g.
-
- NOTE: This means that they should not be set in the global shell startup
- files in /_e_t_c.

- UNIX The file to check to see if it is out of date (defaults to
- /_u_n_i_x) and also what the basename of the newly built kernel
- will be, if necessary.
-

- WORKDIR below) and as the base directory name for the
